Who We Are
Door of Hope was born out of a life-changing experience during a mission trip to Ethiopia in 2010.
While serving on a team that was building two churches in rural villages, Rick and Cindy noticed that many of the women left the construction site each day for hours at a time. Curious, Cindy asked where they were going and learned that they walked more than thirty minutes each way to collect water for their families.
The following day, Cindy joined them on the journey. What she discovered was heartbreaking. The only available water source was visibly dirty, yet it was the water families relied on for drinking, cooking, and bathing. Seeing children and families forced to consume contaminated water deeply affected her. Returning to the work site in tears, she told Rick, "We have to do something to help these people."
When they returned home, Rick began researching practical solutions to the global water crisis. His search led him to Hydraid, a Michigan-based company that manufactured BioSand water filters capable of providing safe drinking water without electricity or chemicals. After receiving training and partnering with the Hydraid team, Rick and Cindy helped establish a Hydraid distribution center in Ethiopia, making clean, life-saving water available to families who desperately needed it.
That simple act of compassion became the foundation of Door of Hope. What began as a response to one community's need has grown into a ministry dedicated to connecting people and resources with those in need—bringing hope through practical assistance, strategic partnerships, and the love of Jesus Christ both locally and around the world.
