Who We Are

In 2010 Rick and Cindy participated in a mission trip to Ethiopia to help build 2 churches in rural villages. At one of the building sites Cindy noticed the women leaving every day for several hours at a time. When she inquired about where they went, she learned that they walked half an hour to collect water to drink in large containers. The next day she traveled with the women only to learn that the water they collected and were drinking was dirty. When she returned to the building site she was crying and said, “we have to do something to help these people.”

After returning to the states, Rick began researching water filter options and learned of a company in Michigan called Hydraid that manufactured a plastic bio-sand filter. After going through training and working with the Hydraid team, Rick and Cindy were able to help with the initial process of establishing a distribution center in Ethiopia. That was the beginning of Door of Hope.
